Certification – The Foundation for Sustainable Packaging of the Future

In recent years, leading players in the packaging industry have increasingly recognized the importance of integrating sustainability into every aspect of their operations. With rapidly growing demand for eco-friendly packaging, certifications for responsible forestry have become essential to meeting the high expectations of the market and customers.

One example of this is the development of the new food packaging Muoto, created by Metsä Group's innovation company, Metsä Spring. The wood fiber in the material is sourced from both PEFC- and FSC-certified forests.

Growing Trend – More Certifications Leading to Broader Acceptance

Many companies in the packaging sector are beginning to see increasing value in holding multiple certifications. A clear example of this is Graphic Packaging International, one of the largest players in the industry, which combines certifications from the three largest certification bodies – PEFC, SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative®), and FSC. By doing so, they maximize their reach and build trust with customers and partners.

At Scanpack in Gothenburg, the company presented a new product they developed for the fast-food and salad company Picadeli.
